I had gone to a quick comparison between the FZ50 and FZ150.
So I installed a small scene in my living room, not at all "WAF" (Women Acceptance Factor), time to take some pictures and hop! Done.
Just two umbrellas and one softbox, to have a little light.
Already I could not make a similar white balance on both cameras, but also by watching the first pictures, I thought they sold me an FZ100 instead of an FZ150.
So I changed my scene, repeated the tests...
After a few days ...
Miss Nemo ... What are you doing? You've long?
No, no... I check something... Waf! Waf!
The FZ150 is not as homogeneous as the FZ50, as I have a reputation of fundamentalist FZ50, I told myself there, they will not believe me.
So some "crops" comparisons quickly, it did not do so.
Finally I reached the following...
All photos are free and you can do what you want without my consent.
If you want all the pictures and/or RAW files, simply contact me and I will send you a temporary link to download.
Photos 255 Mb and RAW 323 Mb in .zip file.
Before continuing, we must understand that this type of exercise, if it's interesting to compare the FZ50 five years old with a recent FZ150, has no sense in real life photographic.
Images in their normal size, show no failure visible at over 100%.
So do not worry, you can buy my own (like new), I put on sale, now that I finished my comparison.
If I sell it, only because I do not support motorized zoom.
You will make fantastic photos ... I ask you to believe me!
Click "f/3.2" ... Ouch! It starts badly for the FZ150, with a big difference in sharpness compared to the FZ50.
Up to f/5.6 the FZ50 is normal, for the FZ150 there is a slight improvement.
At f/8 sharpness is not as good for the FZ50, but still better than the FZ150.
The FZ150 shows a loss of sharpness in image bottom with an improvement by going to the image right.
FZ150 chromatic aberrations is limited in the normal size image, but they are treated worse by the FZ150 internal software.
In RAW, the two cameras seem to have the same level of chromatic aberration, but the FZ150 jpeg treatment is worse compared to the FZ50.
Again, this is far from catastrophic, but compared to my FZ50 to me that love, is not so good.
Optical/Sensor stress or preferential treatment of Panasonic for its new bridges generation, no one will ever know.
Perhaps they have lost the software sources that processes the CA?
Crop 2 - Bottom
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
Bottom left to the center , there is always this difference in sharpness.
Crop 3 - Bottom
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
Crop 4 - Bottom
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
The matchboxes bottom center, still show a difference in sharpness.
Crop 5 - Bottom
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
Further to the right at the statue is a bit better for the FZ150..
Crop 6 - Bottom
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
At the Green book, at f/3.2 and f/4.5 is much better for the FZ150, almost equivalent to the FZ50. At f/5.6 it is also equal, but not to f/8.
Crop 7-Bottom
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
image bottom right, f/3.2 to f/5.6 are very close.
Always a little worse for the FZ150 at f/8.
Crop 8 - Center
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
Crop 9 - Center
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
Crop 10 - Center
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
In the center is very similar to f/3.2 - f/5.6, the FZ150 might be a little better. At f/8 there is always a small loss sharpness for both cameras, but a little stronger on the FZ150.
Crop 11 - Up
f/3.2 FZ150 - FZ50
f/4.5 FZ150 - FZ50
f/5.6 FZ150 - FZ50
f/8 FZ150 - FZ50
On top, no particular problem of f/3.2 - f/5.6. A little more color noise in the highlights for the FZ150 and a little more in dark areas for the FZ50. Is negligible for a full size image.
To compare the level of zoom and DoF (Depth of Field), I put the settings in "normal" and "A" (Aperture).
I set the exposure as for me ... less 1/3 EV for the FZ150 and less 2/3 EV for the FZ50.
On tripod.
FZ150 Vs FZ50 - 420 mm
f/4.3 - 424 mm FZ150
1/500e - -1/3 EV
f/3.7 - 420 mm FZ50
1/800e - -2/3 EV
f/8 - 424 mm FZ150
1/160e - -1/3 EV
f/11 - 420 mm FZ50
1/100e - -2/3 EV
424 - 420 mm f/4.3 - f/3.7 FZ150 - FZ50
424 - 420 mm f/8 - f/11 FZ150 - FZ50
FZ150 424 mm f/4.3 against f/3.7 for the FZ50 which displays a higher speed.
The DoF is slightly lower for the FZ150.
To 420 with a smaller aperture f/8 and f/11. Logically, the FZ50 which closes at f/11 shows a somewhat larger DoF.
However, the FZ150 grows to 600 mm and there, the DoF is compensated by the power Zoom. To f/5.2 against f/3.7 it is equal with impressive image quality that outperforms the FZ50 dropped with 420 mm.
When we close, the picture quality is still there, but the f/8 DoF is shorter than f/11 reinforced by a longer focal length, which is logical.
The FZ50 is not completely obsolete. With a smaller sensor and more 2 Megapixel, the FZ150 is "almost" equal to the FZ50. 620 mm from the FZ150 offers more opportunity with excellent image quality.
The problem of sharpness in the bottom of the image at 50 mm, is spectacular but relatively anecdotal. From wide angle to 50/60 mm it will be virtually invisible on the picture.
The FZ150 loses a little sharpness by closing up to f/8, but that's normal, it is also the case with the FZ50. The FZ50 closes at f/11 which gives it a little field.
At f/8 the FZ50 is better than the FZ150.
In addition, the FZ150 is a little better in noise reduction, less than anticipated in the test of the black cap, but a good one f-stop anyway.
Given the fact that it closes (f/5.2), you may need up to 200 ISO when the FZ50 will be even at ISO 100. We can go up to ISO 600 without too much trouble, beyond it becomes really difficult.
I also watched the stabilizer at 420 mm the FZ50 allows sharp pictures at 1/20 with 80% success rate if it is held firmly.
With the FZ150 it will not fall below 1/30 of the max zoom lens (600 mm).
The stabilizer is still effective.
At least one stable thing in Pana in six years!
Finally, menus and functions are quite well thought out with much more possibilities than the FZ50, RAW and JPEG, fine settings, Larger LCD screen and better articulated, HD video and more.
It is regrettable for the EVF still not HD..
In any logical, the FZ150 should be in place of the FZ45 with a real expert bridge in place of the FZ150.
But the logic of Panasonic has its reasons, which reason does not know.
